Common Failures in Homogenisers – and How to Prevent Them

Homogenisers are built to run for many years, but like any machine, certain parts are more prone to wear. In our video, Michel explains the most common issues we encounter and how to stay ahead of them.

The five most frequent failures are:

  • Plunger and packing wear – leaks and loss of pressure caused by worn seals.
  • Valve and seat problems – poor closing leads to pressure fluctuations.
  • Pressure gauge damage – often due to air in the product or wrong inlet pressure.
  • Lubrication and oil issues – old or contaminated oil causes overheating and bearing damage.
  • Crosshead, bearing and drive wear – heavy-duty components that can fail without regular checks.

The good news? All of these issues can be prevented with timely maintenance, proper lubrication, and scheduled replacement of critical parts.

At Bos, we stock more than 15,000 spare parts for Bos, SPX, APV, Gaulin and Rannie homogenisers — and our service team is ready to help you avoid costly downtime.
